Germany built up a strong military and acquire African colonies, which created a very good economy and trade. As several European countries, Germany needed to make alliances and friends which can help him in case  of a conflict. So he draw lines and make alliances with Italy and Austria-Hungary which in a whole team were called the Triple Alliances or Central Power.

Germany tried to improve as many as he can in the Armed Peace (1871-1914) which was a period of no war but development and growth between all European countries. In the case of Germany, there was a very strong nationalism and desire of whose the most powerful country. And this, as the others countries began to make propaganda that demonstrated a nationalism simulation and as an effect it created tension.

The Schlieffen Plan: It consisted in making and offensive move against France entering through Belgium. Then when finishing with the French they were planning to attack Russia and when Germany conquer this two countries he would require a very strong economy, military and political improvements and then finally conquer Britain. The final step was to conquered whole Europe.

There were several generals who where going to manage the Schlieffen Plan, and one of the most important was Alexander Von Kluck. He was a very important military general who gave Germany some victories like the Franco-Prussian war.
When Gavrilo Princip killed Francis Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and Britain declared war on Germany on August/ 4/ 1914, he was assign to command the 1st army of Germany in the WWI that was going to cross Belgium and then attack France borders and reach Paris. But he began to have serious problems trying to defeat French defence, so he move his troops to the 2th army that was assign to Bulow and that was a mistake because the French army could surround the German troops and flank them. Then the French with the help of British troops came and defeat Kluck and Bulow troops. And the Schlieffen plan failed.
